Season 1 is the first season of the FOX American Action / Adventure television series The Gifted. It was picked up for a series order by FOX on On May 9, 2017.[2] The series currently airs in the U.S. and Canada on Mondays, starting October 2, at 9 p.m.[3] The first season consists of 13 episodes and will deal with underlying themes of modern bigotry, sexism and racism.[4]

Despite being a part of the X-Men universe, The Gifted will not crossover with X-Men's other TV drama Legion. The Gifted exists in its own timeline, separate from Legion or the films.[5]

As stated in the trailer, the X-Men are missing, and this is said to be a major focus point of the series; finding out what happened to them following “a cataclysmic event, a bit of a 9/11 event, that caused enormous social upheaval and a lot of hatred towards mutants,”[6] It’s one of the central mysteries of the show. However, in no way will the show drive the movies or will the movies drive the show.[7]
